Metal knitting needles are useful as mandrels for forming rolled Motor Sticks, normally available in half millimetre sizes and about 400mm long.
Tail boom mandrels are more difficult – you have to try and find suitable sizes from fishing rod tips though Mike Woodhouse (Free Flight Supplies) does have some Carbon Fibre Tailbooms that are usable for F1D/F1R tailboom formers.
